Vagueness of Hillary Clinton’s DNC Speeches and so on

In the battles of being presidential candidate, both parties have contributed their best to make as the best as they can image to the public.

During the speech of accepting the Democratic nomination in the DNC 2016, not long ago,Hillary Clinton mistakenly presumed that her opponent--Donald Trump gave the plan of banning Muslim in the U.S. temporarily. And she made the image to the public aims to defeating the ISIS, which turned out was just similar to the actions that the U.S. has been doing already these years. This is clearly one of the examples linked to what Orwell said:”he/she is almost indifferent as to whether his/her words mean anything or not.” Because what she said was the fact which the United States government is doing and she could not change( contribute more or withdraw) by herself, even if she is the president of the United States in the future.
She spoke to the public on TV claimed that the American people will might hear her plan and agenda on the presidential debates, these topics may include national security, education system, foreign policy, etc.
During the middle of her speech, she said:”Bernie Sanders and I will work together to make college tuition-free for the middle class and debt-free for all.We will also-we will also-liberate millions of people who already have student debts “( CNN.com) It still has a lot of questions, tuition free for the students who go to the public college or university  is something really hard but still possible to manage to deal with, which means the government needs to pay the tuition for the students whose family has salaries lower than $125,000 per year to support their children to get the free in state public colleges education.Besides, there are still a lot of other costs for the families to pay, like living expense, rent specifically. There is no guarantee of whether they can pay in full and leaves debt free, it is nearly impossible with lacking of details. It is the example of “ inadvertently says something else.”(Orwell)
In state colleges might increase the tuition after the government starts paying the tuition which will definitely increase the burden of the tax payers.

The second example would be Hillary Clinton’s speech is vague. She said:”This is — this is not because we resent success. But when more than 90% of the gains have gone to the top 1%, that's where the money is.”Where did she come with the data, what is the gain, who are being the top 1 %? This couldn’t be more vague. This statement was not clear for the listeners that whether she was linking the income and welfare to what period. And if companies take tax breaks and then ship jobs overseas, we'll make them pay us back. And we'll put that money to work where it belongs: creating jobs here at home!”(CNN.com)How can you make them pay us back is the problem which she did not mention a word.
“Keeping our nation safe and honoring the people who do it will be my highest priority.”(CNN.com) How to keep the United States safe, details were neglected.Even though it is an vital part of public concerns, but it is also staleness of imagery, with lack of precision.(Orwell) As the second part:”honoring the people who do it will be my highest priority. ” She seemed deliberately skip the part of veterans administration scandal, with few mention.
“We have to heal the divides in our country. ” She referred the pressing that the United States are currently facing right now, the police reactions to their conflict with black and Latinos, which is the  “The writer either has a meaning and cannot express it” by Orwell.

It seemed common in the political speeches nowadays. Bad and vague speeches will definitely not help getting the country get on the right path.

  1. Hi Elaine, after reading your Blog, I agree with your opinion. When Hillary talked about making college tuition-free, I also think it is unreliable and maybe it is just an empty promise. She didn't talk about how to make it free and where the money come from. College tuition is lots of money. I don't think she can make it free for everyone. I think it likes what Orwell said,"Political language - and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Anarchists to Conservatives - is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind." I think this is a political lie to improve the approval rating.
